Cant get Hp laptop to connect to wireless network
Hi all
I have a HP 500 laptop and I just re-installed xp home and I went to the hp site and got the correct wireless driver, installed it and it says its working properly in device manager. Now I still cant connect to my wireless internet, I use a D-Link router, which I have WEP enabled. When I put in what I think is my network key it says: "The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii or 10or 26 hexadecimal characters". If someone could help me that would be great.... Last edited by R3AP3R; 06-21-2009 at 06:08 PM. |

Re: Cant get Hp laptop to connect to wireless network
You might wanna reconfigure your WEP key. You need to access the router and set it up again and it will tell you if it requires 40bits (10 chars) or 104bits (26 chars) network key.
WEP is based on hex, hexcode will be numbers 0 to 9 and letters A - F only. So you'll create a password like this 0AE33B8C02 (10 chars). Set it up again and try connecting your wireless. |

Re: Cant get Hp laptop to connect to wireless network
No problem. Glad I could help.
By the way, I suggest you use WPA instead of WEP. You can create any password you like in WPA. At least 8 chars, any number and letters. |

Re: Cant get Hp laptop to connect to wireless network
Make sure that all network devices support WPA, otherwise you will have connection problems.
