netgear wgr614v6 setup help?

I'd be very appreciative if I could find a solution to this.

I have a Netgear WGR614v6 that I bought maybe two years ago or so. I set it up with the help of my ISP. My DSL connection went out a few days ago and I had to call my ISP to help me solve it. They gave me new DNS address numbers since I have dynamic IP address. Now i'm going back and trying to setup my router again. All the settings I was using before but i am not able to connect.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: netgear wgr614v6 setup help?

Try opening the command prompt, and ping 4.2.2.2

If that works, set 4.2.2.2 as your DNS server.

Do you have DSL, cable..?

Re: netgear wgr614v6 setup help?

Could you connect your PC directly to the modem and type this in the command prompt:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Re: netgear wgr614v6 setup help?

Plug your PC back in the router, and the router to the modem.

Type these commands again:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Open your router's config (http://192.168.1.1). Make sure the authentication is correct, and it's set to receive an IP from the ISP dynamically.

Re: netgear wgr614v6 setup help?

Yes. Your router will get DNS servers from your ISP, and your PC will get DNS from your router.

Re: netgear wgr614v6 setup help?

I really appreciate your help with trying to get this problem fixed.

I have a friend who used to work in IT. Having this given me so much trouble thus far he suggested I go buy a dsl modem + router all packaged into one. And that seems to have eliminated all the problems that I was experiencing.

Thanks
