WiFi only works without security
Does anyone have any idea why I cannot connect to my wifi when I try to use any form of security (WEP or WPA)?
My wireless card is an IntelPro 2200BG, and I'm using Windows XP with a Netgear DG834G V4. When I take my laptop to other places, I am given the option to enter a Network Key. But when I set up my own Netgear router at home, and try to connect on my network, I am never given the option to enter a Network Key, so it simply won't connect to my network. I tried using the Netgear Setup Wizard, but halfway through it just stops working, without any further advice on what to do. I figured myself how to set up a WEP security with a 13 character ASCII key, and I've also tried setting up a WPA security, but neither offers me the chance to enter a Network Key when I actually try and connect to my wifi network. I'm very confused as to what's going on, and can't seem to find any info out there, as most other questions work on the basis that you at least get that box pop-up asking for the Network Key. Any help hugely appreciated!! |

Re: WiFi only works without security
OK never mind. After fiddling and fiddling I found out that if I select WPA (not WEP or WPA2) then that's the only time I am given the option to enter a network key. I have no idea why the other methods don't work, as the Wifi card claims it can handle WPA2 and WEP!

Re: WiFi only works without security
Most likely the drivers for WPA2, and WEP can have issues with passphrases, you should use only HEX keys.
