[SOLVED] Dsl/Vista help; interesting problem...

Ok, I hope someone can help me out. This has been bothering me for a while. Lemme just say that windows vista = trash. XP made me feel like a technical genius and vista just makes me feel... well... like I need to take a shower. Seriously. /end rant.

Ok so everytime I turn on my computer witch is running windows vista home basic my 2 wire 1701hg modem disconnects and the broadband link light blinks orange. I know the modem and the line isn't the problem though because I can sync up when the computer is off and can get on my xbox 360 (live) without a problem (as long as the computer remains off) which is also connected to the modem. I'm connected wired and get local access only.

Here's a picture of my 2wire advanced settings pages...

Here's what happens when I try to diagnose and repair the connection: “there may be a problem with your DNS configuration.” I have called at&t multiple times (which is my isp) and they have no clue what they're doing. Twice I have been hung up on. Im about ready to just give up on at&t and switch to comcast because I can't deal with this anymore.

Here's some pics of my ip settings in cmd.

This is ipconfig/all

This is ipconfig/displaydns

This is ipconfig/showclassid

Please don't suggest "are all your filters on correctly" or "have you tried resetting your modem and turning it back on." Yes, I have tried all the weak stuff. If you need more info, PLEASE ask.

Thanks in advance!!!

You have a public IP address, which indicates you either have that router configured very strangely (probably bridged), or it's very confused.

I agree with the previous post, reset to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Re: Dsl/Vista help; interesting problem...

Thanks for the replies but i have figured out the problem. Like i said, i tried all the weak stuff like doing a hard reset on the modem, no help. The network card is broke and needs to be replaced. Luckily I was under a 1 year warranty. Thanks anyways, /close thread.

How that causes that oddball IP address I'll never know!
