So. I have a motorola cable modem feeding internet to my pc via one Ethernet card. What I need to do, is enable internet connection sharing on the computer(windows XP) and share that internet out the other LAN Ethernet Card to a Switch, which is a Linksys 5 Port 10/100 Switch, and then out that switch to the Xbox360. Which is all fine and dandy.
But the thing I'm unsure about is the settings. Do I set the 2nd Ethernet(the one going out) to Static or Automatic IP. What about the xbox? I read about setting the pc to give the xbox a static IP, which I tried but I think going through the switch affects that? I can't go straight from the 2nd Ethernet out to the xbox360 because of lack of a long enough crossover cable, so that's why I'm just going through the switch. Thanks for the time guys, Scott |

Re: Xbox360, Internet Sharing and a Switch
In order for ICS to function, the second connection must be configured for automatic addressing. That will be overridden by ICS and your gateway base address will be 192.168.0.1.
I'd STRONGLY recommend a broadband router for this task, MUCH easier to configure and live with, especially for on-line gaming.
