Cable Modem

Hi

Can anybody please tell me if following terms mean one and the same thing in relation to cable modems. HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coax) Max Address /
NIC Max Address / Physical Address. I have checked my own computers Physical Address and this is in the format: XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.

My reason in asking this question is that an article I am reading in relation to setting up a cable modem refers to the above 3 terms and I need to know are they just 3 different ways of referring to the same thing.

Thanks

Re: Cable Modem

Hello LotsOfLoot,

A MAC (Media Access Control ) address is a unique hardware indentifier. Each piece of network hardware will have one and another term for the same thing is a Physical Address.

The address is actually used on network's data link layer, not on physical layer, as the name would suggest.
