?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
So i have been disconnecting from the internet for a longgg time now. The problem was that everytime my internet went out, i could use my phone and get it reconnected again. I was getting tired of this, called Verizon and after a long process they told me that my Computer Speakers were the ones messing with the internet connection. SO i unplugged it and it started working again. My question is, is this valid? and if that's the case then where am i supposed to put my speakers for my computer? Thanx in advance.

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
I can't even begin to imagine how the speakers are having an effect on the connection!
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
Wow, ok umm let me update you on this speaker issue. After talking with Tech Support at Verizon, and she tell9ing me that it was my speakers, approx. 13 hrs later, bye bye internet connection.
With that said, let me give you the background of what's been happening for at least a year now. Results of Ping Test: (assuming the results are normal because internet is up...for now) Internet disconnects, Modem Dsl light blinks when this happens, picks up the phone, calls someone, DSL light becomes solid, signifying a connection has been established. Maybe hrs, or days later, internet goes away again, use phone, repeat process. I finally got a Technician to come to the house, however there was an internet connection when he came, so all he did was check the speed. I told him what the problem was and he said that all that was needed to be done was to change some port at the Central Office. couple days later, bye bye connection. Then that's when i called tech support again and she came to the faulty conclusion about my speakers. Info: ISP: Verizon, DSL Modem: Westell 6100, Model: C90-610015-06 Router (which is connected to the modem for Tosh): Linksys Wrt54g2 Connection Type: Wired I believe for the desktop.. OS: Windows Xp on Desktop, Vista on Laptop Browser: Mainly use Firefox, but also have IE for microsoft websites. I have tried connecting directly through the broadband modem, same results. and Yes, since both my laptop and desktop's connection are based on the Braodband modem, they both experience disconnection. Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
When you lose connection are you doing anything like downloading a lot of files or something?
If you unplugged your speakers and left them unplugged, does your internet connection remain "stable"?

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
No i'm not downloading anything, just reading my feeds or surfing websites, i mean isn't that what the internet is for?
and no, like i said before, when I unplugged my speakers the connection came back, then disconnected a couple hours later, leaving me too use the phone to reconnect as always. |

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
So your speakers are NOT responsible, correct?
Since this happens with both your laptop and desktop, then I guess the problem lies with your modem. I don't think it's the router because before you were connected directly to the modem and still lost the connection. How long have you had the modem?

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
I've had the modem since i've had verizon, probably 3-4 years now. And, yea the tech girl said it was the speakers but i disconnected with them removed from the area anyway.

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
Other thank getting a new one, all I can suggest is to reset the settings on the modem back to its default:

Re: ?Computer Speakers & Internet Connection?
One other issue that could be the cause here is your interior wiring. The clue here is your use of the phone changes things. Here's my fix for DSL wiring.
Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco NID (Network Interface Device). This is the place the telephone lines come into your home wiring, usually either in the basement or outside near the other utilitiy connections. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. All of the DSL analog side wiring should be CAT3 or better twisted pair from the telco service entrance to the DSL/ADSL modem. You can use one of the twisted pairs in CAT5 cable if you have that on hand. The splitter I've used in the past is the Wilcom PS-36, it's good for any DSL/ADSL service worldwide. This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues. Here's a good detailed description of the process: DSL Wiring Upgrade Tutorial
