dailup speed stalling

my internet connection is extremely erratic, sometimes it loads pages quickly and others seem to stop.
watching the connection status as i am loading pages it niether sends or recieves (when stalled) yet still shows as connected at 45.0 kbps (average)
i am using windows xp home sp3 fully updated, with an athlon 3ghz dual core chip and 2gb memory installed
it has been like this for ages but now that everyone uses broadband it seems to be getting worse. i would be very grateful for any help at all
thanks t.royan

Re: dailup speed stalling

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: dailup speed stalling

http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2504157 (2nd) i ran the test three times, the first two took ten minutes each but the third i left running (without using computer for anything else) for 45 mins and was uncompleted. i will try again if you need it.

Re: dailup speed stalling

Those are VERY strange results, I've never seen anything quite like them!

Is this using a wired connection? If not, please rerun the test a couple of times with a wired connection.
