Says Connected but no connection.

I'm using a westell 6100f with a dlink router and the computer connected through to the router through Ethernet has no connection though my computer says thats its connected. Even stranger is that the computers connected through a wireless connection to the router seem to work with no problem. I've tried using only the modem with the hardwired computer but that didn't allow it to work either. Any help and information would be very appreciated.

You've tried the computer with both the router and direct to the 6100F (which is also a router). I'd say you have a problem with the computer in question.

Connect a cable directly to the modem, and also power cycle the modem for 30 seconds after the change.

Do the following steps.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.



Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

before i get a flash drive and send you all of the information i will give a few pieces of information to i found.

I noticed that dns servers was blank

also when i tried to ping yahoo.com it stated that "could not find host"

I don't know if this is the problem but i will be sending you the rest of the information soon, i need to buy a flash drive because there is no other way i can transfer the information required

The connection-specific DNS suffix is not significant. I would expect you not to be able to ping Yahoo from the other symptoms.
