Bad Speeds

Hi All

Not sure if i am in the right place but here goes. Just got my Internet up and running. 02 broadband. But i have noticed my network connection flicks between 24mbps and 54mbps. It should be on 54 not sure why this is. Anyone have any ideas

Well, you're obviously describing wireless connections to a router.

Some things you can try here.

For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

I use O2 wired and wireless. I found that using TCPOptimser improved them both. Google it and download it. You can go with the auto settings or play around with it. As johnnywill stated moving it a couple of feet can make a difference, I found moving it as little as an inch can improve it no end. I always setup the wireless as close to the router/modem as possible, then when I have established the best thru put I then move it to its proper location.

Cheers guys. The router is wireless and only about 3 or 4 feet away from the machine, with no walls in the way. Will try and find some updates and download TCPOptimiser and see how that goes.

Top suspect would be wireless interference. See #1 on my previously posted solutions.
