Internet Lag is Killing my Gaming
Most Comcast techs in my area hate me by now, as I am an Xbox 360 gamer with a lag problem that has not been resolved by any of the five techs sent.
Here's the issue: When I first signed up for service, 6mbps down/1.5mbps up, I was flying high and everything was good. No lag, none that wasn't tolerable or to be expected... nothing's perfect. Several months later, I can't play a game without at least 1/4second lag, or can't play at all, and nobody has an answer for me. There's a possibility, but it hasn't affected me until a few months back and it's been like this the whole time. I live on the end of a circle and the data flow comes in on the exact other side before reaching me. There is an amplifier literally touching my drop hookup, but I'm on the wrong side of it. Could this be a problem? Here's the signal: -Downstream- Signal to Noise Ratio: 38 dB Power Level: 2 dBmV -Upstream- Power Level: 53 dBmV Actual dl/ul speeds vary between: dl 1.5mbps-5mbps (sometimes peaking at 10mbps) ul 1.5mbps-2.5mbps I'm going crazy and am not getting a good experience out of online gaming anymore. If I could rectify the issue in any way please let me know... or else I guess I have to beg Comcast to quit giving me the shaft. Also, my modem has a billion 3-critical messages in the logs. Ranging from R002.0-R005.0/T001.0-T002.0/I002.0/D001.0 Is this normal? Last edited by Vault Tec; 03-20-2009 at 11:51 AM. |

Re: Internet Lag is Killing my Gaming
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.
The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.
