you should be able to,a lan port is an onboard nic,just make sure you use a straight through patch cable

Actually ive done that but to no avail. isnt it supposed to light up when you plug in a ethernet cable? cause the one i use goes straight from my modem to my computers lan port. hmmmmmmmm maybe its broken???? should i go ahead an try an nic card just in case?

have you checked the bios to see it is enabled

no go into the bios,if it is not enabled in the bios you will not see it in the device manager
