Broadband lost after XP upgrade

Hi..

I posted a similar topic in the XP forums but wanted to try it here as well since it's also a Broadband issue.

I tried upgrading from Windows ME to XP (sp2) on my Dell Inspiron 2100.

When I uploaded the XP, I had great sound (lost sound when I plugged in a new flat screen monitor) however I couldn't get a broadband connection, I reinstalled Verizon (I have Verizon DSL/AOL).

It attempts it..it says something like 'searching for DSL modem' hangs up there and then starts with 'TCP/IP....' gets to step 2 and stops, then I get the message that the computer couldn't get an Internet connection. This all happened after XP was installed.

I uninstalled XP and my broadband is working just fine although I have no sound, my little 'volume' icon on the toolbar is gone, everything I've checked under the control panel for sound shows everything is working fine.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated...I searched high and low for XP (since it's no longer being sold) and finally found it for my desktop at a reasonable price (it's new) and need it since I have an MP3 player and camera I can't use since ME is not compatible with my toys.

Thanks.

is your DSL connected to LAN card or USB. if usb then try to install its driver manually first from Device Management. and then try to install supplied software and connect to internet.
I am connected via a LAN CARD. Another question, when I upload XP do I delete ME? It occurred to me I never did anything like that. Thanks.

Re: Broadband lost after XP upgrade

when you install XP over ME, you actually upgrade your OS.
Can you see LAN card installed in device manager.
