Help with Linksys befcmu10 modem
Hey. I have a laptop, and im trying to connect it to the internet by simply hooking it up to my cable modem via usb. I'm using vista on this computer, and im hooking this laptop up to my linksys befcmu10 cable modem.
I can use wireless easily, using my linksys wrt54g router, but i want to connect to the internet straight from the modem! I noticed how there is a USB port in the back, so I hooked my modem up to my laptop. I didn't know where the CD was, so my laptop searched online automatically to find the driver for this modem. Now i turn off my wireless, and when i see the new connection, it says "unidentified network (public access)" and it also says "access: local only". Im using Vista, by the way. As I look at the picture drawn, I can see My computer ---> Unidentified Network -----> X Internet It cant fully connect to the internet for some reason. It just says "local access" Then, i open up internet explorer, and it cannot open any page. I dont understand this. If my cable modem is working fine, as i type this while on the wireless network (The router is connected to the modem), then why cant i connect to the internet when i hook up my laptop to the modem via USB and turn OFF wireless on my laptop?
