Router won't connect

About 2 weeks ago after 18 months of flawless operation, , I lost the ability to connect to my DSL internet via a linksys wrt54gl over about 2 hours of progressively slowing connections. After trouble shooting with the IPS (SKT telephone, rural KS) they felt the visionnet 202ER modem was functional and the router was at fault. I purchased a new Linksys 160nV2 router, but this did not fix the problem. Please note: when connected to the router, neither the wired or wireless connection will connect to the internet.

OS: XP on 2 computers, Vista on one, all current with SP and updates prior to loss.

Modem Visionnet 202ER
Router: Linksys WRT54GL and 160nV2 (with newly flashed firmware)

While connected to the modem I get via wire:

The router is set at factory defaults and I have tried changing the MTU to 1492 without success.

Connecting to the router, I can access the setup page etc via the ethernet wired connection. I cannot through the wireless computers. The wireless computers are being assigned an address by the router, but neither can connect to the internet (randomly after rebooting and resetting, the wireless connection will work for about 1 hour)

I have spent about 2 hours with linksys, who says it's the modem, and 1 hour on the phone and 2 hours with a tech in the house from the IPS and they state it's the router. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any time offered.

Re: Router won't connect

Are you saying that you can connect either computer to the modem directly and access the Internet with no issues? From the looks of this display, it appears that the modem should connect to any standard broadband router at factory defaults and function with a wired connection at least.
  1. Have you considered a totally different make/model of router?
  2. Are you SURE the cable is good between the router and modem?
  3. What do you see on the WAN status page of the router regarding the connection to the modem?
