Internet speed drops frequently (DSL)

Hi, I have a linksys wireless G with speed booster USB network adaptor and WRT54G linksys router.

Ever since i got the internet, their has been times where the internet connection would all of a sudden be really bad for an unknown reason.
Im trying to figure out if it is the isp or my router

I have DSL internet. Usually the speed spikes range from 200kbps-1500kbps but in this range, the speed is so slow even internet explorer/ firefox takes a while to load pages. (5-10 seconds or more)

I have tested with speedtest.net and performance.toast.net which give me roughly the same speeds.

Im beginning to think that their is no hope for my internet speed staying consistant without switching isp's which currently is impossible.

if anyone has a solution to this problem, it will help me alot greatly and i will be in your dept :)

EDIT: also i know i get these speed drops because when i play games on the internet, i often get dropped or experiance heavy lag within the first 20 minutes of play.

i would join a game fine with no lag then all of a sudden, boom! lag....

Re: Internet speed drops frequently (DSL)

First off, I'd like to know the exact make/model of the modem and the router you use.

What does your ISP have to say about the issue?

Please run the following test a couple of times and post the link to the results here. Try to hit it when you are experiencing the issues you describe.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.
