Comcast Connection Error
Hello, I am running the internet using Comcast Broadband Internet. The internet is being accessed through an Arris Cable Modem. I am using a Linksys Router and an Arris Cable Modem.
Both the Router and the Cable Modem have cables from the Comcast Television box in them. A splitter was used to share the Comcast Television Cable signal from both devices. The problem is that I cannot connect to XBOX LIVE using the router. The Cable Modem only has one Ethernet port, an Ethernet cable is connected from the Cable Modem's Ethernet port to the first port on the Linksys Router. The second port on the Linksys router is connected to the Network Adapter of my PC. The third port of the Linksys router has an Ethernet cable connected from the XBOX 360. The router is detecting the XBOX 360 as a machine, but it still can't connect to the internet. However, my PC can still connect to the internet whilst the XBOX 360 cannot. Here is a visual display of my network setup. ![]() The other error I have is that, I cannot get into my Router's settings. Before our new Cable/Phone/Internet installment, I was able to access my Router's settings through "http://192.168.0.1", but now that does not work. Here are my ipconfig statistics. Code:

Re: Comcast Connection Error
You appear to have the modem connected to one of the router's LAN ports, it should be connected to the WAN port.
Let's get it all working again. Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on. The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.
When the computer is completely booted, let's see this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output! In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: IPCONFIG /ALL PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING <dns_servers> PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Comcast Connection Error
Also, try navigating to the local area connections properties window. Start --> all programs --> accessories --> Communications --> Network Connections
When the window pops up right click on local area connection and then click "Properties". Highlight --Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click on properties to the lower right. -make sure you have the computer set to "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server addresses automatically". Then try retype ipconfig in the command prompt and post the stats. |

Re: Comcast Connection Error
Again, you appear to have the modem connected to one of the LAN ports of the router, it should be connected to the WAN port of the router.

Re: Comcast Connection Error
It is connected to the first LAN port.
However, the Comcast Cable guy wrote "WAN" over the first port. When I used to use the internet via Cable Router, the cable from the computer was plugged into the first LAN port. |

Re: Comcast Connection Error
Well, I don't know what the Comcast guy was smoking, but you MUST connect it to the WAN port if you want to connect more than one device to the router.
I've already posted the procedure for properly connecting and configuring it, I suggest you use it.
