Wireless Constantly Sending
Not sure if this is the right forum since I have no idea what the problem is, but here goes. I'm using a D-Link WUA-2340 to connect to a wireless network here in the house, and it's working fine, except that the activity report shows that it's been sending data constantly for some reason. I mean hundreds of packets a second, whether or not I'm actually using the internet: right now it's at 400,000 packets sent compared to 2,000 received, and it's been connected for just under an hour. The laptop seems very attached to this process as well, as it gives me a stop error if I remove the modem.
I'm not running any programs that even connect to the internet other than Firefox (and the problem persists when it is shut down), I haven't installed anything new or even updated anything in the past couple days that this has been going on, and spyware and virus scans come up clean. I'm not ruling out the possibility that it is some sort of malicious program, though all my CPU usage is apparently going to system processes. Does anyone know of anything at all that could cause this, or if there's any way I can stop it? Let me know if you need any further information about my setup. I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. |

Re: Wireless Constantly Sending
As long as the machine has an internet connection regardless if you are actually "surfing the net" it will constantly send and recieve packets. The only way I know of to stop it is turn your modem off when you are not using it, but the constant sending and receiving isn't really a threat
