Today i swapped my ISP from Tiscali to TalkTalk. They sent me a brand new D-Link DSL-2640R modem router. I have set it up on the main PC running Vista and installed it using the TalkTalk Connect & Go CD, piece of cake! Internet works fine on that PC. We also have an Apple iBook G4 so I connected an Ethernet cable from the LAN 2 port on the back of the router to the LAN port on the Apple. Internet works fine on the Apple. When I connect another Ethernet cable from the LAN 3 port on the back of the router to my computer running XP it will not load any form of internet connection or even realise there is an Ethernet cable inserted. Although an orange light comes on when the cable is inserted and stays on all of the time so the computer obviously knows it is there. To test the cable wasn't faulty I connected it to the Apple to see if it would work. It did! So I established that it wasn't a faulty cable but I was the PC that was not working correctly. I have run out of ideas as to why it will not work and REALLY need help! Please respond !

Re: Vista to XP wired connection error!
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc
Please respond to all the following steps.
Let's see this as well. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
