Internet Dropping on Linksys WRT54G V8
Okay first of all, I use the DSL modem 660 series... The internet is not dropping itself, I have the dsl plugged directly into my WRT54G V8 wireless router, which is then wired to a little hub which splits my connection to PC and xbox 360. On my Xbox 360 I was having connection problems with certain people, everyone said it was my NAT being strict or Moderate, but I tried everything to fix this. Wouldnt work
What I ended up doing in the Long run was changing my Embarq Modem to Bridge Mode, which enables me to connect to EVERYONE. works fantastic, now, unfortionatly my LINKSYS router is dropping the connection every five minutes or so and starting back up within like a minute... but trust me, no fun... whats going on anyone know??? Driving me nuts!! by the way, the hub between my systems and router is NOT the issue, i've had it here for a long time and it was never a problem, and Embarq checked the past status and they said its not on their end... this issue has come about after i changed my modem to bridge mode, a few of you will say change it back to the other mode, but i can't because it prevents me from doing too many things, i need it open to be able to do what i need to do, i need to fix this... well thanks for looking into this guys, if you can please help! ![]() By the way- incase it matters, the wireless is dropping too- because my parents across the house claim that its dropping. (which says alot because they are illiterate and normally don't notice when i unplug them)

Re: Internet Dropping on Linksys WRT54G V8
Since the connection is dropping for everyone, wired or wireless, it would seem it's either the router, modem, or the ISP.
I'd start with the router. Download and install the latest firmware available. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure. If this doesn't do it, I'd consider using something like DD-WRT 3rd party firmware to see if that might change the router's behavior. If none of this helps, I'd make SURE the modem isn't actually dropping the connection when this issue occurs.
