High latency issues

Hi, last week on thursday I believe it was I was playing world of warcraft when I started to expirence some latency issues it soon became unplayable, my latency went from 150ms when I logged on to over 3000ms. friday came around and the ping was still there; my friend who has the same exact isp and bandwidth option as me living 200ft from me playing the same game reported no high latency, I took my computer to his dorm room and began playing completly lag free, now im back in my dorm room and the lag is still there, what if anything can I do to diagnose this problem.

thanks in advance.

Re: High latency issues

Sounds like you have either modem or line quality issues.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: High latency issues

I'm going to run the program as soon as I get home(at work right now). But I was wondering if it could be a bad modem or wiring if I dont have high latency in other games such as counter-strike or high pings on voice conference solftware servers(ventrillo). I know it wasent the World of Warcraft server itself because it was fine at the friends house...now thats puzzling...

Re: High latency issues

Hard to say, which is why I run diagnostics to eliminate possibilities.
