linksys problems

It took me no less than 6 times loging back into the router to make this statement. my wireless g-2.4 broadband router serial cgt20f801240 kicks me off every few minutes and I have to reset the router at lease 1 times a day. I have had the computer and my dsl checked and they both told me it is my router. my desktop even lost it's connection. I have had the linksys for about 2 years and it has gotten worse everyday since about 6mths to 1 year ago. I have also reset the linksys several times with no help. Any help would be appreciated.

My System

Re: linksys problems

Hi, the serial isn't as much of a help to us, and we don't have much of a use for it anyway. What is helpful is the model of the Router and the version.

Like I have a WRT54GS v7.

As for the problem, if you conect directly to the modem, do you have any problems.

Also I would advise you to do a firmware update to the router.

To download the go to Linksys's suport page and chose your router there, then follow the site until you get to where you can download the newest firmware.

Once you have that (and it is probably best just to download it through the modem so you have no problems), don't use wireless (I find it less troublesom this way), go to the web interface for the router and update the firmware.

If you need some help on that I can guild you through it.

See if this helps with the disconects.

As for my router, it seems the firmware got completely messd up (eithernet ports wouldn't work, all my settings went back to default, etc.) and updating the firmware fixed everything for now.

Re: linksys problems

Thank you very much for the reply. I will try this and hope it takes care of the problem. I also found today that it is telling me to empty my arp cache. I do not know how to do this. any suggestions?

Re: linksys problems

Some things you can try here.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
  5. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
