Internet Running no connection

Hello all,

My internet keeps cutting out on me and it "usually" takes a restart to bring it back around.

(I just upgraded my system and am now using Windows XP Pro SP3)
I set up a network using network wizard,my computer is hardwired into the modem, and my Xbox 360 is hardwired into the modem as well. My computer and Xbox can see each other just fine, the Xbox has uninterrupted internet service.
My computer on the other hand keeps cutting out, the internet seems to slow down and eventually quits.
Once the internet is down I ping www.google.com and get a 100% return no problem but Safari/Firefox/IE won't recognize the internet.

Any ideas?
