dsl connection issues
ok, my wife is out of town at her parents house. The dsl was working, but now its not. She has tried reseting the ip and power cycling the modem. There is no router connected. The Modem is a Siemens Speedstream 4100 and the service is through at&t. She has tried calling them but they are of no help. All the lights on the modem are solid but the activity light isn't doing anything like its not sending or receiving. any help would be wonderful.
Thanks |

Re: dsl connection issues
Try restarting the computer, The speedstream 4100 is supposed to have a auto logon feature so if its disconnected it logs back on and youre on line all the time.
Check your network connections in control panel, see if it shows up. Make sure you have a cat 5 cable from modem to the Computer. It sounds like the modem is plugged in if the dsl light is steady green. There is a chance it still could be ATT's issue, but just in case, has anone moved the computer or changed anything. Oh, remember to check the filters on the phones (every phone instrument needs one) and the special filter for the Modem. Make sure the modem is plugged in to the right jack. (exception is if they have a whole house filter-no individual filters would be used) |

Re: dsl connection issues
I'm not down there to check but she says there aren't any filters on the phone lines so i'm guessing that its like a house filter...i honestly don't know but i will get her to double check everything thanks for the reply

Re: dsl connection issues
IF its a whole house filter, the modem needs to be in the dedicated modem jack. Cant be moved. If there are filters each phone has one, burg alarms have a special one, and the modem has a special one. Dont forget ans machines, satelite tv recvrs need one, and all that.
Make sure nothing was changed at that end (phone or computer wise) if it was changed, let us know. Otherwise, ATT might have an issue. Usually dsl is pretty rock solid, I have had very noisey phone line, couldnt talk over the static, and dsl still worked. I am a retired SBC phone guy, dsl came to my area just as I was retiring.. |
