Now for the rest of these drivers.
Go to the device manager and post the remaining errors.
On these errors I want you to Right Click>Properties>Details Tab
Post the VEN/DEV numbers you find Under device instance ID (for each error)
Thanks,
Bill
Im having problems with my internet connection too! I recently got a new modem and it was working fine for a day or two but now its not working. In the device manager thingy my USB Cable Modem has the yellow exclamation point thing and I dunno if its because I deleted stuff from my registry when i was trying to get rid of spyware and fixing my keyboard/mouse issues after my windows xp service pack 3 update. Also I called my cable providers and they said my IP Address has been deleted or something. They said my modem works fine its something to do with my PC. What do you think it is and can I fix it?

Re: WinXP doesn't detect my modem so I can't connect to internet[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

HI,
If you are using a USB Cable Modem you may need to reinstall the Modem Drivers.
Do you have the CD that came with the modem?

Bill

PS- I am moving your post to its own thread.

Re: WinXP doesn't detect my modem so I can't connect to internet[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

no the modem did not come with a CD. It is a motorola surfboard sb5101. the modem works fine hooked up to my brother laptop and it looks like it is working when hooked up to my pc ( all the lights on etc) its just my pc itself that there must be somehting wrong with. does it have to do with the windows service pack 3 update?

Re: Unable to Connect to USB Modem

Hi,
I do not think so.
Is your pc connected to this Modem via USB or ethernet connection?
Seeing you have an error in the device manager:

I am thinking you are connected via USB as your above quote gives you an error message in the device manager.

Here is a link for your MODEM:
http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...on=CableModems
Scroll down to your model sb5101.
You will need the driver USB 2.4.5 Driver
The User guide is also available

Try reinstalling the driver and see if that removes the error in your device manager

Let me know how you make out.
Bill

Re: Unable to Connect to USB Modem

Why use USB when that modem has Ethernet capability? You need no drivers for Ethernet, it's a much better option, and more reliable too boot!

Re: Unable to Connect to USB Modem

I agree with Johwill.
If you have an Ethernet connection and the modem is working OK. Can you connect through an Ethernet Connection instead of USB?
Does your PC have an Ethernet connection?
You could always connect a hardwire router to connect more than one PC, If you have no need for wireless
