turning off router causes my pc to freeze
hello, wasnt too sure which section to post this in but since this could be a windows related problem i posted here.
i get disconnected fairly often, mostly when im refreshing server list on games but it randomly happens also. when it does happen though, i find myself having to reboot, because everytime i press power on the router(BT voyager 205 ADSL), my computer freezes after about 10 seconds. i wondered if this is definately a problem with my computer, or could it be a problem with my ISP or what? thanks |

Re: turning off router causes my pc to freeze
Some things you can try here.
Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Re: turning off router causes my pc to freeze
Thanks very much for the help Johnwill, and sorry it took so long for me to reply.
I have followed your steps and updated firmware and reset the router to factory defaults. It's too early to say whether this has had any affect, but i will reply or change title to solved when im sure. I wasnt sure about the 3rd option. i have 2 nvidia nforce networking controllers. So i searched for driver updates for nforce on nvidia's website, and it just had a package, that i downloaded, which contained the following: * Ethernet Driver (v67.89) WHQL * Network Management Tools (v67.91) "Sedona" * SATAIDE Driver (v10.3.0.42) WHQL * SATARAID Driver (v10.3.0.42) WHQL * RAIDTOOL Application (v10.3.0.42) * SMU Driver (v1.61) WHQL * SMBus Driver (v4.69) WHQL * Away Mode Driver (v6.0.6000.107) WHQL * Installer (v6.14) |

Re: turning off router causes my pc to freeze
Well, the Ethernet driver sounds like all you need. I'm assuming you are connecting on a wired connection, right?

Re: turning off router causes my pc to freeze
Hmm, well my internet stopped working just now, as it quite frequently does. But, when mine stops working, my parents computer(connected to the same router) allways has internet access, which i find to be incredible. It has to be an issue with my computer. i forgot to try re-setting my router to see if my comp freezes though, im so used to just rebooting cause i have no choice when it happens :-\
not sure what to try next, my isps customer support never seem to know much.. |

Re: turning off router causes my pc to freeze
Your ISP won't help you if other computers on the connection don't have the issue. This is obviously a local issue.
