Speedtouch 585v6 needs constant configuring,help!

Hi there, seasons greetings to one and all.I'm in a bind and would like some help please.Helping a friend out I'm trying to access the internet via a speedtouch 585v6,i basically had loads of problems resulting in downloading new driver and resetting the router[when i could finally get it load a page]but finally i get it to connect and load up my homepage! all is good until i turn off the pc.when i reboot i have to go through the whole login process using my 'phone number@dialbb.com' again it's like the pc isn't remembering. The pc is quite old and i believe it has had a new lithium battery[cmos?]could vital settings have been altered? I've done the basic, made sure my security allows programs for web use, checked event viewer and device manager to see if something is in error but can't find anything i'm stumped please help.
