Trying to connect Sling and Voip through a Linksys router

I am having problems connecting a Slingbox to be able to view progarams on the internet. Here is what I have: Broadband for ISP with a Motorola modem, Vonage for telephone service with its own one port modem, Linksys wireless router and Slingbox Pro HD. Now Vonage recomends me connecting to their modem first and then going to the Motorola modem, and to router. Sling recomends going to the Motorola modem first then to the router from there to Sling and Vonage. Which is right or neither? Can anyone help? I tried the Sling way and for some reason my internet works weired I click on some links and it shows an error. The first suggestion from Vonage does not let Sling connect to the internet.

Re: Trying to connect Sling and Voip through a Linksys router

I recommend you connect your router directly to your modem, then connect the Vonage VoIP box to the router. Vonage's box will frequently cause issues if it's in front of the router. Also, you'll have the NAT layer in that box to deal with, yet another headache.

Connecting the Slingbox to the router in the above configuration is correct, then you may need to do some port forwarding.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the Vonage VoIP controller.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the Slingbox.

Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.

Re: Trying to connect Sling and Voip through a Linksys router

I don't see why you can't just connect the router's WAN port to the modem, and the Slingbox and VoIP controller to the router's LAN ports. I ran Vonage that way, and I currently have ViaTalk with the Linksys VoIP adapter, it's just plugged into my router.
