switched from BT DSL to Virgin Media Cable

Hi

I have just switched my ISP from BT to VM. I HAD a BT DSL modem which was connected to a Netgear FM114p wireless router. I have a number of PC's that connect using a mixture of cable and wireless. All worked no problem.

I have now had the VM cable modem installed. I connected this up to my router, restarted everything in sequence and hey presto, everything appears to work.

Now when I tried to get on 1 particular website (www.liverpoolfc.tv but there could be others) it won't work. Interestingly, it shows the website logo in the address bar (but that could be cached I assume?) but I get the message 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. I am able to access other websites ok, such as www.bbc.co.uk. I took my wireless router out of the equation by simply connecting a PC directly to the Cable modem and I am able to access it perfectly. So it appears the problem could be with my wireless router settings but I've no idea where to look.

I have seen this section on the router and I am wondering if its relevant to my problem

Router's MAC Address
Each computer or router on your network has a unique 32-bit local Ethernet address. This is also referred to as the computer's MAC (Media Access Control) address.

Usually, select Use default address.

If your ISP requires MAC authentication, then select either Use this Computer's MAC address to have the router use the MAC address of the computer you are now using, or Use This MAC Address to manually type in the MAC address that your ISP expects.

The format for the MAC address is XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX. If you select Use This MAC Address and type in a MAC address, do not then select Use this Computer's MAC address or your entry will be overwritten.

Apply, Cancel and Test Buttons
Click Apply when you finish changing the settings.

Click Cancel to return to the original settings.

Click Test to connect to the NETGEAR Web site. If you connect successfully, your settings work and you may click Logout to exit these pages and enjoy surfing the 'net!

Some things you can try here.

1. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
2. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Already tried both of these. Firmware was already the latest.

Its really strange. When I run a tracert on the web site I get 3 hops into it and it times out. When I connect the PC to the VM modem directly it goes past that hop ok.

I 'think' th eproblem could be either

1. Maybe the MTU setting in the router ??? rubbish???
2. A problem with the ISP end.

If I go out and buy a new router it may not resolve my issue and I will have wasted my money.

Most cable accounts have a requirement for an MTU size of 1500, which is the maximum value. Since lower values would just make the connection slightly slower, that's probably not it.

It's really odd that a TRACERT gets past the router, that would indicate an ISP issue to me.
