Help with wireless internet![moved from xp]
Hi all, this is a REALLY stupid question, and I'm pretty bad at computers so... Im clueless in this area.
My question is: If someone is using my wireless internet for a laptop, is there anyway I can trace what sites he/she have been to? And further, outside of blocking them from using the wireless, is there any way I can put a parental block of sorts on their wireless access to limit what sites they can go to on their laptop? And, am I missing something? Can I clearly view what websites they go to and I'm just missing it? Nothing pops up in 'history' after they use the wireless, is there any way I can make it so I will pick up their history in my history when they use the wireless? thanks for your help! |

Re: Help with wireless internet!
What kind of router do you have. Many routers let you block the signal to other computer unless they have the password that you created. Other than that, people can hack into and use bandwidth from wireless networks.
If you are trying to limit a child or someone from accessing unwanted sites, there are parental control programs that blocks the sites you choose. Of course if some if using your wireless network from a different computer, you have no way of finding out what sites access, I think. |

Re: Help with wireless internet!
Thank you. Well I definitly dont need to worry about hackers, my rooter type is Netgear, if that was what you were asking for (I'm really bad with this stuff)
So if they access it from a laptop outside of this computer's network, I can't identify what sites they have gone to? |

Re: Help with wireless internet!
I don't believe you will be able to see what sites they go to. At least, I have never seen anything like that.

Re: Help with wireless internet![moved from xp]
actually if the router has the ability to keep logs, the logs in the router could show where a hacker may have gone - if there was a hacker.
In other words for clarification - if you are using a neighbors unsecured wifi, they can see where you are going through their router logs. Even though I have a secured network, I still check my router's logs every couple of weeks. In addition my internet security package watches for possible unauthorized wifi access.
