[SOLVED] Trying to use my Netopia 3347 as a Modem & AP
Hi again!
Our network seems to be working well. We can access the server remotely, and now even have our mx.fqdn deliver mail to it for MS Exchange... but the modem we use (Netopia 3347-002) is merely acting as a modem with limited to no wireless ability. The reason is because we have a static IP setup for the modem, and a static IP for the server (to allow email and RA) and the server acts as a DHCP server. So the Wireless access from the modem doesn't connect to the DHCP server to "relay" packets (I am very unfamiliar with this terminology) in order to supply an IP to wireless devices. OKAY So, what I tried to do was set up the DHCP on the Modem to be a "relay-agent" ![]() with the IP being the IP of our Windows Server (which is the DHCP Server), but it doesn't do anything... Am I missing something? Is there something that is required on the Server side that I need to do, or is there something specifically on the Modem that I need to do. I am thinking that we can't use the modem to supply the server with a static IP AND use the same modem to supply wireless devices with a masked dynamic IP... but again, I'm not familiar with this stuff...

Re: Trying to use my Netopia 3347 as a Modem & AP
Okay, I am thinking of purchasing an Access Point to hook up to our switch (behind the server) which should take care of it, but I'd rather not spend the extra money if we already can do it with our Wireless Modem.
I was wondering, my set up right now is: Modem > Server (NIC1) > Server (NIC2) > Switch > Workstations if I hook up the modem to the server AND the switch, would that allow me to set up the relay-server? the DHCP is coming from NIC2 and to the switch. so I would set it up like this: Modem > Server (NIC1) > Server (NIC2) > Switch > Workstations/Modem (wireless)
