Help Chose Modem

Going to take an internet connection. What modem should i search for? I refer to the parameters. My internet service provider promises a connection speed of upto 2mb ps & its a wired connection. From a telephone connection specific to say. How do modems differs? By their speed? Or by The amount of data, they can access at-a-time?

Need help. I don't need any hardware fault from my side, while using a net connection, that can slow my access speed while i'm online.

It would help a bunch if you told us the ISP and the type of service, DSL, Cable, what?

What is TSF? Its a cable connection. My internet service provider is BSNL. The name of the service is BROADBAND.
