Windows live messenger connection issue

I'm not necessarily sure this is posted in the correct area sorry if it is. I recently downloaded Lavasoft ad-aware 2008 and tuneup utilities 2008 trails, to clean out my computer a bit. After doing a lot of file deleting, ad ware scans, registry cleaning, defragmenting, memory optimizing and such fun things. I re started my computer and it seemed to be running fresh. Now the issue i just ran into is that programs like windows live messenger and videora ipod converter and other programs that passively connect to the internet wont connect. I can open Internet explorer or Mozilla Firefox and keep a connection. I have also tried alternate log ins and such and nothing seems to work and the problem is more then just windows live. I then turned off all my fire walls( avast anti virus, windows firewall) and uninstalled ad-aware and tune up utilities and still cant solve the problem.
windows live is saying there is a connection problem with my hosts files and key ports and says check firewalls(there all off). Need any more info or questions to help me let me know

Re: Windows live messenger connection issue

I'd reverse the "corrections" you made to the registry using Tuneup.

A good read: Ed Bott: "Why I don’t use registry cleaners"

Re: Windows live messenger connection issue

I have no idea if the corrections will still be backed up if you reinstall. One of the many reasons I don't use registry cleaners.
