[SOLVED] Connection problem

hi there,

Wondering if anyone can give me a little inpiration on this one. I can connect my lap top at work via wireless Internet, and I could do the same at home since yesterday afternoon. Now I can't get the conection runnng at home. I thought was an ISP problem yesterday, but still the same today. Btw I can connect at home with my phone!!!
I've tried to set up a fix IP, to reset the wireless, use all the fix/repair stuff from vista and nothing.
As I share the house and I'm new I don't have to much info about the Internet just know that is a BT stuff.
Any ideas?

Re: Connection problem

unless your isp uses a static ip set it to obtain ip and dns address automatically
if you are connecting through a router check dchp is enabled
i will move you to networking section

Re: Connection problem

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

  • If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
  • For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
  • Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
  • If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Connection problem

Hi thanks for the help.

Sorry I couldn't give to much infos on the first post as I was pn my phone. I would not be able tho give you all the information because I don't know a few things, but I will try my best.

I am using Vista Home, the ISP is BT (UK), using WEP. The problem was that I was connectiong with limited connectivity, meaning I could get internet.

I found out this morning, that (I presume) the problem is something related with between the VISTA MANAGER (ver. 1.5.7 from Yamicsoft) that i have on my machine. I presume that is the cause because when I turnd the TCP AUTO TUNNING option OFF I was able to get connect, but I was getting disconnect seconds after.

Now Im at work and I had to turn the same option ON because I couldn't get the internet at work with that option OFF...I had no idea what is going on. I also ready on the TUNNING option that It could afect connections that use BT (my case at home).

At night I will try to get more infos about my home internet and use my phone to add that info here.

Sounds very confuse for me. Im not a network advanced user, but it's the first time I get something like that and Im quite lost at the moment so will apreciate the help.

cheers

Re: Connection problem

Well,

I don't know why, but now is working fine!!!!! I didn't change nothing just turn the same software on again and now is working at my house too..

*looking my configs now it seems to me that I was getting a diferent IP at home before, when I mean diferent I mean nothing related with the one I get from the wireless router now....

maybe when I turn off/on and connect at work it cleand my IP and I could get the correct one again... if that's possible...*

anyway thanks for all the help

cheers
