I have moved house from the UK to Holland and taken my D-Link DSL-G604T ADSL router with me to replace the Alcatel speedtouch one that was already in my house (which works fine, so no problem with the DSL signal I expect).
I've set it up according to the manual and the ISP settings: PPoA, VC-Mux, VPI/VCI no's etc. and for the life of me I can't get it to receive the DSL signal, it just happily tells me that the DSL is disconnected on the main setup page. I've spent ages on this tweaking around with all the different bits of info offered on the internet and I am growing frustrated, but my big query really is this - as I bought the router in the UK, is there a chance that its ADSL cable input is different from those used in continental europe? I know they are cosmetically different and you need to use a little adaptor to get the flat rectangular head of the british type into the router, but is there a chance the arrangement of the wires is physically different? Any info much appreciated, fish |

Re: D-Link DSL-G604T ADSL router claims dsl not connected!
Hard to imagine the wires are different, there are only two wires coming in from the phone line.
As far as the connectors, I can't really comment about that.

Re: D-Link DSL-G604T ADSL router claims dsl not connected!
Yeah I guess it was a long shot. Question though: on your average adsl router, if you were telling it the wrong ISP username/password, or VPI or something else, would it not even recognise that there was an adsl signal available (and so not light up the LED)? I'm just trying to work out if the problem is software(or mistaken settings) or hardware related...

It depends on the modem, some don't light the light unless the connection is fully established.
I think I'd return that device and pick a different brand.

Re: D-Link DSL-G604T ADSL router claims dsl not connected!
From a bit of research it seems the normal VPI/VCI settings in Holland are 8 & 48, whereas the norm in the UK is 0/38.
Also encapsulation VC(null) as opposed to VCmux. Have you tried the ISP to ask what the specific settings should be ? There's no hardware differences. Hope this helps. |
