Internet now slow...? Pretty sure routers the problem...
I took a speed test when this started, it said my speeds were in the 1,000's KB/s. However, youtube videos load 3 seconds at a time, webpages take ages and games have trouble loading(since the loads are server side). All the other computers are fine! They don't know what the problem is.
This has happened since my brother moved in. My computer has become neglected from the worldwide web! We changed routers to compliment his wireless. He uses the wireless connection and everything is fine. My computer is directly connected and is very slow. My Xbox Live is also slow, with or without wireless, wherever I put it! My computer has always been connected through a router, using two Ethernet cords with one connector, used to be fine. Also, the new wireless router is connected to a Vonage phone thing... ISP: Comcast Wireless Router: D-Link Wireless Router DIR-665 My Connection: Wired Computer: XP Home SP2 Browser: Firefox(all browsers affected) The modem is all the way in the back garage, this is the main house, but this was never an issue before. |

Re: Internet now slow...? Pretty sure routers the problem...
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.
The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

If you're connected to Comcast, how can your real IP address not be a public IP address? You just need to make it pingable in the router.

Re: Internet now slow...? Pretty sure routers the problem...
If I make it pingable it will help my speed or it will give you the info for the rest of the tests? I'll follow some options to try and make it happen.
On the other note, I am a tiny bit inept there. It auto-snagged my IP, so yeah that has to be it, I just normally used ipconfig /all to find it but that is juts for the router, yeah? |

Yep, IPCONFIG just tells you the adapter's info, not the public IP address.
