Internet Connection Woes
I'm not sure if this is a Firefox problem or a Vista problem. I lose my connection, but it still shows as active. I get a 'connection interrupted' message on screen. I have to close my connection and reopen it. I have dial up (no broadband in area) and also use a verizon national access plug in. Makes no difference.

More Internet Connection Woes
I appear to have a problem similar to poster mnmomof3. However, I have dial up and use a Verizon wireless connection as well. No cable in my area. The connection will apparently drop and I will get a connection interrupted message. Happens with both dial up and wireless. However, my computer tells me that I'm still connected and that it can detect no problems.
I am as green as grass when it comes to computer tech. If this is a problem with my router, how do I go about fixing it--and is it the same fix for wireless and dial up? Last edited by dvan; 09-08-2008 at 09:21 AM. Reason: stupidity |

Re: Internet Connection Woes
When you're "disconnected", please do this.
Try these simple tests. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: IPCONFIG PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here. I'd like to see this as well. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Internet Connection Woes
Both suggestions were a no go. When I hit enter after the first series of figures, I received message: '3' not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I could get no further.

Re: Internet Connection Woes
I had printed out the instructions last night and followed them, but they copied numbers instead of letters.
Sorry about that! Going back, I used the letters: The first series went through until the PING 206.190.60.37. Ping transmit failed error code 1234 four times 4 packets sent, no packets received. Could not find yahoo.comI succeeded (I think ?) with the second series: Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 6TO4 Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . Re: Internet Connection Woes
Something is REALLY screwed up in the TCP/IP stack!
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista. Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt. In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log Reboot the machine. I'd like to see another IPCONFIG /ALL after the repair.
