Connecting Philips SNB6500 with Virgin ADSL broadband - help!

Forgive me if this is in the wrong place or is repetitive; I have tried to find answers in a number of places and have just ended up pulling my hair out!!

I am attempting to connect to wireless broadband. I have virgin media adsl broadband with a Dr Speedtouch 330 modem, and a Philips SNB6500 router. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A300-117. As I have discovered (from browsing) quite a lot of people with this wireless router have been able to connect to a network nice and easy but come unstuck when getting on the www. This is my problem. How do I do it?

I have done all the bits (well, the bits I understood) in the router manual, but it doesn't really give much advice on connecting to the net, just to a pc. I have changed the IP address so it matches the one Philips specified, but to be honest I don't understand much further than this!!! I have also attemted to access http://192.168.2.1 that someone suggested but the link doesn't seem to work. Argh!

Any help would be muchly appreciated. I know you will probably need more info, so please just let me know which info and where I can find it and I will happily oblige.

Do you have the computer connected using the modem only? If so, please post this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I'll just point out that I did not have the woreless up and running when I did this (needed to revert back to usual www connection); not suree if that makes a difference?

That IPCONFIG doesn't look like you would be connected at all! This was done with a good connection to the Internet?

Yep, deffo connected or else I wouldn't have been able to post it on here!!

Still no joy with the www wireless connection...anything else I can do??

Well, I'm at a loss, you have no default gateway, which should preclude you getting connected at all!

Let's reset the stack to see if we can correct that.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
