Server behind DSL modem can't be accessed on the LAN
Hopefully I've put this in the right forum - it could equally have been posted in the 'protocols and routing' area.
I've been setting up personal web servers for a while now and never had many problems. Recently after a long period of having nothing served from home, I've installed a Linux box (actually on a Thin Client) to act as a server on Port 80. I've set my router to forward TCP and UDP arriving on Port 80 to the static address of the server on my LAN and it's accessible remotely with no problems. The problem I have is that whenever I attempt to connect with a browser to the server, even if I type in the LAN address, I then see my WAN IP address and get presented with my router's config page login. I've had this problem only once before with a modem that I only used for a couple of weeks, but this time I've no idea what's wrong or how to fix it. I think this is a common problem, but I can't find a solution via Google. Can anyone help? My modem / router is a Netgear DG834PN. Thanks, Ian. |

Turn off remote administration on the router.

Re: Server behind DSL modem can't be accessed on the LAN
Hi John, It says it's turned off already - indeed if you access the server from remote the requests pass correctly to the webserver on the LAN. Thanks for the reply. :) Ian. |

Re: Server behind DSL modem can't be accessed on the LAN
Hmm... I guess I'd have to be more aware of the network details, sounds a bit odd...
