[SOLVED] Internet has slowed to a crawl!
I have cable internet service that has in the past few days slowed to an unmanageable speed. I am running Windows XP, on a Compaq with AMD Athlon processor (3200+). My cable modem is an RCA DCM425, I also have a Linksys router RTP300 which I use for my phone service. I remember being told in the past to turn off the modem and shut down the computer. Then restart the modem before restarting the computer. This morning I disconnected the router and modem, shut down the computer, reconnected the modem and waited for it to boot up, then I reconnected the router and waited several minutes before restarting the computer. It doesn't seemed to have helped. I'm not sure if that is the right sequence though.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try? Thanks, Kristen |

Re: Internet has slowed to a crawl!
Does this happen on all computers connected to the Internet? Have you connected directly to the modem to see if this is a router issue?
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here. The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: Internet has slowed to a crawl!
Thank you for your help. I called Time Warner and got a message that there were cable problems in my area. Then I saw the cable guy down the road. Thankfully, they fixed the problem. But I will bookmark dslreports.com in case I need it in the future.
