Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
What do you get at popular speed test sites?
A couple of popular Internet speed test sites in the US. Speakeasy Speed Test DSLReports Speed Test FWIW, I have a 15mbit/15mbit fiber connection, and I routinely get 1.8mbyte/sec downloads from fast sites, so something's wrong.

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
What's the make and model of your modem? If it is an earlier model, it might not have the ability to use higher speeds.
Like the old dialup modem days, a modem then that topped out at 14400 couldn't make full use of 33600 dial line, though it would still work just fine, at 14400. |

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
I've found the manual for the Copperjet 1616. It's rated at 24mbit, so your 20mbit connection should be well within the capabilities.
It seems the Copperjet has a log facility. Check System -> Event Log to see if there is anything informative there. Regarding the WAN ip address. Such things are usually set by policy of the provider. Having a static IP address usually involves an extra fee, and the provider will tell what IP address to use. Changing the number from your side can play absolute havoc with your routing. You could get an address that is bandwidth limited. That's in the provider router policy, and why you shouldn't change the numbers. |

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
Connect directly to the modem and run the following test.
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here. The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
Well, you seem to have a problem with something, the connection to the East coast of the US sucks!
FWIW, I ran a test from www.alken.nl, and specified my location as the US, and I got about 1/5 of my expected results, 3100 upload and 1200 download. When I run from www.speakeasy.net/speedtest and pick the NYC server, I get 15635 upload and 13162 download, closer to my actual rated speeds. Since I can download large files from major sites like Microsoft at 1.8mbytes/sec, I believe the Speakeasy results. I don't trust your speed test site.

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
What node did you connect to for the test?

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
See the attached diagram, when you run the speed test, it gives you a choice of locations to test to. You should pick the closest one to your location.

Re: Low Down/Upload Speed
Try a different node, see if you get a different result.
