I Cant Connect (Help Please...)

Hi!

I have a problem connecting to the internet... I was using my other laptop the other day and it was raining so the power supply went on and off so i decided to turn off my laptop instead. That night I decided to connect to the internet again but the ethernet hub thing(which usually has blinking lights) doesnt seem to be working... So i thought it has something to do w/ the ISP. So today I tried using another ethernet cable (maybe that was the problem) but still i cant connect automatically to the internet.

I tried plugging the ethernet cable to my other laptop and then it works properly.. so im thinking now that maybe the problem has something to do w/ my other laptop(and not the ethernet cable or the ISP)...

is there anything wrong w/ my ethernet hub? or this has something to do internally? Do i have to see REALTEK stuff in my device manager? what if i cant find it? please help me....

btw. my OS is vista home premium
thanks!

Re: I Cant Connect (Help Please...)

maybe you can check your Ethernet adapter the one you connect the cable to your lop top you can try if you can see a blinking light on your laptop near the cable if it blinks that means you need to set up the ip add or the problem is on your signal on the dsl and if not the problem is in your computer Ethernet adapter, you can trouble shoot this by turning off you comp removing it clean it with brush then put it back and try if that works.

Re: I Cant Connect (Help Please...)

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
  1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
  2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
  3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Let's see this from that ailing machine as well.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: I Cant Connect (Help Please...)

Let's see the results of the Device Manager test and a new IPCONFIG /ALL again now that you've reformatted. We may be looking at a different situation.
