I lose my connection every 2 hours
Okay, I don't even know where to begin looking to try to fix this, but my internet disconnects itself for about 1-3 seconds every 2 hours. Yes, that's every 2 hours like clockwork. I'm guessing it's some kind of reset. Anyway, even though I know exactly when it's coming it's still very annoying for when I'm playing online games for example, because it tends to happen at critical times. Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening and how to fix it?
Oh, and I have Telus DSL if that makes a difference. |

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
Ok, I guess I should be more specific... The problem occurs on all computers in my home, which includes a Windows Vista machine, an XP machine, and a Mac, so I figure it must be a problem with the modem or something. And it happens whether or not a browser is being used. There is no error message... the Internet connection is simply lost for a few seconds, and any programs requiring a connection give me a disconnected message (such as "Lost connection"), forcing me to restart them.
I'm using a wired DSL connection from Telus, and the modem make is HomeConnect ADSL modem ethernet, model number 0740. The router is a D-Link ethernet broadband router, model number DI-604. The results from the command window: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. ping 206.190.60.37 Pinging 206.190.60.37 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 206.190.60.37: bytes=32 time=104ms TTL=55 Reply from 206.190.60.37: bytes=32 time=110ms TTL=55 Reply from 206.190.60.37: bytes=32 time=105ms TTL=55 Reply from 206.190.60.37: bytes=32 time=110ms TTL=55 Ping statistics for 206.190.60.37: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 104ms, Maximum = 110ms, Average = 107ms ping yahoo.com Pinging yahoo.com [68.180.206.184] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=58 Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=58 Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=58 Reply from 68.180.206.184: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=58 Ping statistics for 68.180.206.184: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 33ms, Maximum = 34ms, Average = 33ms nbtstat -n Local Area Connection: Node IpAddress: [192.168.0.104] Scope Id: [] NetBIOS Local Name Table Name Type Status --------------------------------------------- TYLER <00> UNIQUE Registered MSHOME <00> GROUP Registered TYLER <20> UNIQUE Registered MSHOME <1E> GROUP Registered MSHOME <1D> UNIQUE Registered ..__MSBROWSE__.<01> GROUP Registered ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Tyler Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connecti on Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-76-2E-F7-3D Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.104 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : August 26, 2008 10:54:34 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : September 2, 2008 10:54:34 AM |

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
The DI-604 has a log facility that might have some information. Login to the router, and check the Status -> Log for anything.
Your ipconfig report is showing a 1 week DHCP assignment, which is the max a DI-604 can have. But the setting can be for 2 hours also. Check the DHCP setting in the DI-604 on the Home -> DHCP page. |

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
Check the WAN status page on the router and see how long that lease time is set for. Post a screen shot of the page here.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
The router has a builtin in web server for allowing you to access it thru your web browser. Use the url http://192.168.0.1/ It will prompt you for a login, the default user is "admin", and the password is empty.
As a security measure, it's usually a good idea to change the login password. Until you get your situation sorted, it'd be better to wait about making that password change. Less confusion for now, but something to do later. |

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
Hi, I have the same problem. I was thinking it was caused by the sudden power failure I experienced. Just a few days ago after the incident, my computer wouldn't load to the desktop which is why I had to reformat it. Anyway, since then, after every 2 hours my DSL gets disconnected but when I restart it, it functions well until about 1:59:59 online time. Please help. Thanks.

Re: I lose my connection every 2 hours
I am also thinking my motherboard has been affected since there's also a problem with my audio/sounds. It just suddenly says I have no drivers installed, but I could hear music from youtube, etc.
