hook up sat w/o land line

i shut off my land line.Now Dish wants me to hook up a phone line or pay a fee.I have dsl still in a dry loop..phone line w/o voice.I hooked a 2 way phone splitter to my dsl jack,one line went to the sat receiver,and one to the dsl modem.The pc went slower and the message still came up on the receiver to hook up a phone line..Please advise,thanks

If you don't have phone service on the DSL feed, you can't connect to it and expect phone service. You also didn't mention DSL filters, which is why it probably screwed up the DSL connection.
