HELP! Windows xp not reconizing ethernet card

Hello,

I know nothing about computers, so if anyone could help....

Got a new computer but it didnt have an etherent connection that i need for my cable broadband so iv taken the card out of my old computer and put it in the new one.
But the new comp (running on XP) cant find any broadband connection. the light comes on on the ethernet card so i know its fitted properly.
Iv put the card back in the old comp and is working fine.

Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it?
