I have ntl cable broadband and a wireless network. My main PC is hard connected via ethernet to my linksys router which is then ethernet connected to the cable modem. However, the download speed connected in this way is around half what it is if I connect directly to the modem. This is the case even with all other PCs disconnected from the wireless network.
Any idea what might be causing the slowdown? Thanks George ![]() |

Well, it sounds like you may have a bad router, because with a single machine connected, there should be no observable difference in speeds. I had a D-Link DI-614+ with a bad WAN port that exhibited similar symptoms, I exchanged it and all was well.

Good point, I forget about the MTU size. Most router makers have fixed that, so it's less of an issue nowadays, but you never know...
