so much help dont know where to start
mmmk so i have qwest dsl (sorry).....i pluged the modem into a dlink router (dl524) and ive now called 4 tehc support co. the problem lies in 3 places.
the reason for adding the router to the mix is once ive figured out all of this nonsense i want to plug my 360 into the router. 1.my firewall (webroot) has been going crazy ever sense ive added the router, in port tracking it says its blocking a UDP (17) packet and it comes in grupes of 13. from the ip address of the router. *sparatic connection*2.decides the firewall i will most likely have another problem probubly due to an old driver that cant be fixed but if i where to lets say turn off my computer and turn it back on my internet connection would be local only and if i clicked mozilla it would (maby) connect if not i will try the repair deal and it says dns error deal....i can un plug the modem and plug it back in and it will sometimes fix the situation. detail for more detail on what tech support on d links end did he had me open the browser with only the router pluged in. i then was told to durn off DHCP and change my ip adress to 196.168.0.10<- because i guess the qwest modem would use it as a default as well and the dhcp thing would basicly make the router a swich. which is how im on right now. if anyone can help me fix these problems on the gameing end of the spectrum when all is done and i connect my long ethernet cord to the router and test connection on the 360 it stops at the first test bsicly saying the cables are not connected but they are and they work and if it go into system settings it sisplays that an ethernet cord is connected. Sigh! any help would be awesome |

Re: so much help dont know where to start
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection? Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? Have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way? Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
