Question Possible Modem Problem

Hello,

starting today my mother's computer, an HP Pavilion a1590n, stopped connecting to either the modem or the internet. the computer is hooked up to a Linksys BEFSR41, which is hooked up straight to the internet modem which is a Motorola SB5100. The Linksys router connects two other modems, one in our basement, and another upstairs which connect to other computers.

my computer, being stuck in a room without an internet outlet, is connected to the Linksys router by ActionTec's MegaPlug 85 Mbps Ethernet Adapters. often on my computer a windows pop up comes up saying theres a network confliction with IP addresses, now this never seemed to make a bother with me, both my computer, and my mom's still had perfectly working internet, atleast until today.

my mom tried to use AOL earlier, and was stuck at the 'Reaching AOL through TCP/IP Address..' stage (first when logging in), and then Internet Explorer was unable to reach any internet connection as well. I decided to check my own connection to see if was only my moms, or all the internet. the internet worked in the basement and upstairs, cept mine, my would get stuck at the same stage when logging into AOL. I moved my adpater that was attached to the Linksys Router into the upstairs router, and here I am, working internet. Now the problem is my mom's computer is still unable to connect to the internet.

Ive checked the connections, and its connected to the router just fine. The weird thing is that it says that the computer is connected to the internet, but it is unable to connect to the internet. AOL has a connectivity icon on the taskbar that is blue when its possible to connect to AOL, and it is blue, but it is still impossible to connect to the internet.

Im no networking expert, so I am unsure whether this issue is a Modem/router problem and that the computer cannot connect, or if it is a computer; Please help!

((sorry for the long explaination but I usually know its better to have every bit of info when solving a problem))

Re: Possible Modem Problem

Try check the ip addresses of all devices in your network to find the same ip address, change them.
are you sure your router connected to 3 modems? or u mean 1 modem and 2 switches?
please tell me the details of the networking devices in your network, how many connection you use to go to the internet
