verizon dsl wont go wireless
Hi , we recently got Verizon dsl...we have two lap tops, I finally configured mine to work wirelessly ( settings etc.) but I cant get the IBM to work unless plugged in to the ethernet cord ? I guess what I am asking is where to get info to configure the IBM ? Thanx any help appreciated its been two weeks....Oh that service also drops signal ALOT, whats up with that ????

and welcome to the ForumDo you have any security ( WPA, WEP . .. ) enabled on the router? What brand/model is the Modem and ROuter? Are you using Wireless Zero Configuration or the IBM wireless management app?

Hi yes there is a wep key configured and it is enabled
The modem they sent is a Westell 7500 I am not sure what to use , tried the IBM thing....and the xp pro thing ? Whats wireless zero ? (sorry so lame ....) |

I's start by disableing the security until both pc's are connecting. See this for more on the Zero Configuration . . it usually works better than the proprietary apps.
Have you applied all Windows Updates?

hey , whew got it on did the zero thing....actually had lots of other stuff with that and whole bevy of new probs....freezing up etc...and prob with embedded security chip .....I REALLY HATE THE IBM , love my HP !!!!Never any crap !!! So after getting wireless , the darn thing wont do it again ....any ideas ?????

Try this fix by johnwill
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands: Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine.

Hi you wont believe this but that didnt work either....and last night we restored from external...and then did the run command this a.m. sooooo whats next , it still goes on with ethernet ( also when I checked it still didnt have the correct IP ) I have put it in at least 13 times now .....aaaah !

Let's try this:
Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.
