Connected to Network but no Internet??
I just bought an HP m9250f desktop PC, its a great, quick computer that's much better than my old one. One problem, I have an internet connection through my old computer and would like to share it with a router to my new computer. I'm not too good with technical jargon, but I think I have set up the router correctly using tutorials on the internet :P. My new computer is wireless and can connect to the network, but for some reason it will not allow me to connect to the internet. I figure it's probably a problem with the Ip addresses or something, but I don't know exactly what to do. The old PC displays the "map of the network" and shows that everything is connected fine... but its not. Let me know if I need to post any more information, I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks in advance! EDIT: I'm running windows vista home premium on both comuters. the router is a linksys model WRT54G. Last edited by toaderina107; 06-03-2008 at 09:04 AM. Reason: didnt include OS or router model |

Re: Connected to Network but no Internet??
For this, you need to eliminate some possibilities, first.
Is the old computer able to successfully access the internet via the Linksys? If so, what happens if you run the new computer directly into the Linksys via the lan wire?

Re: Connected to Network but no Internet??
yes the old computer can connect when it is wired through the linksys. i also ran the new computer into the router by moving it upstairs. it works perfect with a wired connection. the only problem seems to be wireless.

There can be all sorts of steps to take to get your wireless working, and they'll be able to take it one step at a time, faster than someone here will be able to.

Re: Connected to Network but no Internet??
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection? Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
